Receiverships
The Regulatory Actions Section is responsible for the administration of all insurance entities placed into rehabilitation or liquidation in North Carolina as well as closely monitoring troubled insurance entities, including those placed into administrative supervision.
Estates Under Administration (Receiverships)
Effective July 17, 2023, Friday Health Plans of North Carolina, Inc. (hereinafter “Company”) was placed into receivership by order of the Superior Court of Wake County, North Carolina, with the consent of the Board of Directors. The Transitional Order of Rehabilitation, Order of Liquidation and Injunctive Relief enjoins all persons from instituting or continuing any action at law or in equity or any attachment or execution against the Company. The Company will operate in Transitional Rehabilitation until August 31, 2023, with the Order of Liquidation effective as of September 1, 2023.

IMPORTANT: You must choose a new Exchange Heath Plan by August 31, 2023, to avoid a gap in coverage.
Friday Health Plans policyholders that have health insurance coverage through the federally facilitated exchange – Your health insurance coverage will end at 11:59 pm on August 31, 2023. To ensure Friday Health Plans policyholders have an opportunity to replace their current exchange coverage before it is terminated, effective September 1, 2023, the North Carolina Department of Insurance has coordinated with the federal office known as the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight to implement a special enrollment period for members to select another exchange health insurance plan.
The special enrollment period starts on July 2, 2023, and ends on October 30, 2023, however, to avoid a gap in coverage you must select a new Exchange Health Plan by August 31, 2023.

The Superior Court of Wake County, North Carolina ordered Southland National Insurance Corporation (SNIC) into liquidation on May 2, 2023. The entry of an Order of Liquidation enjoins all persons from instituting or continuing any action at law or in equity or any attachment or execution against SNIC.
Pursuant to N.C.G.S. § 58-30-125 (b) the Liquidator is NOT requiring policyholders claiming cash surrender values or other investment values in life insurance and annuities to file a proof of claim. Health insurance and Death benefit claims will be paid in the normal course to the extent covered by a state life and health insurance guaranty association.
