North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Eric James Moore, 32, of 1033 Moravian St., Winston-Salem. Moore was charged with insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and forgery, all felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Moore of trying to collect on an automobile insurance claim with Geico Insurance Co. by forging a bill from Triad Radiology and claiming he had paid those bills.
The offense occurred June 28, 2024.
Winston-Salem police arrested Moore on March 19. He was released on a written promise to appear in court. Moore is scheduled to appear in Forsyth County District Court April. 10.
Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.
“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”
