North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Katisha Rashaud Roberts, 34, of 1264 Sandy Ridge Church Rd., Morven. Roberts was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division charged Roberts with adding false statements to her auto accident report filed with Peak Property and Casualty Company. Roberts reported that unrepaired prior damage to the 2007 Honda Accord was not already present on the vehicle and reported that a passenger was injured who was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on Jan. 21.
Roberts was released on a $4,000 secured bond and is set to appear in Anson County District Court on March 24.
Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.
“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”
