North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jackie Kay Lynch, 61, of 1915 Glendale Dr. SW, Wilson. Lynch was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Lynch of claiming injuries due to a slip and fall at a Piggly Wiggly grocery store to Utica National Insurance. Agents later discovered that Lynch had made the same claim at seven other stores, seeking damages. The value of the claim was $1,000, according to the arrest warrant.
The offense occurred on Aug. 5, 2024.
Lynch was held at Wilson County Detention Center and appeared in district court on March 12.
“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”
