North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Timothy Alexander Riley, 19, of 1140 Delco Prosper Road, Delco. Riley was charged with one count of insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division charged Riley with insurance fraud after he told Walmart’s Claims Services Department that a pallet of merchandise fell on him. He later filed a claim for worker’s compensation. Video evidence later revealed that he had moved out of the way of a falling pallet without being struck.
According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on Jan. 26, 2025.
Riley was arrested and released on a $25,000 unsecured bond. He appeared in Brunswick County District Court on March 11.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
