North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Mikiah Rene Roberson, 29, of 7304 Sorrel Park Dr., Morrisville. Roberson was charged with five counts of insurance fraud, three counts of obtain property by false pretense and two counts of attempt to obtain property by false pretense. All 10 charges are felonies.
According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Roberson filed an insurance claim for food spoilage due to alleged power outage in July of this year. Agents’ further investigation revealed four other claims that Roberson filed from two different residences in Wake County between 2023 and 2024. All claims were identified as fraudulent. Roberson was able to obtain $1,500 from her insurance company in claim payouts.
Roberson was arrested on Dec. 16 by Wake County Sheriffs and released on an $2,500 secured bond. She appeared in Wake County District Court on Dec. 17.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
