North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jonah Taylor Biddix, 30, of 12 Market St., Cullowhee. Biddix was charged with one count of unlicensed bail bonding activity, a misdemeanor.
Biddix fraudulently posted a bond using a power of attorney from Palmetto Surety Corporation, knowing that he was not licensed to act as a surety bondsman at that time.
According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on July 2.
Biddix was released under a $5,000 unsecured bond with orders to appear in Jackson County District Court on Jan. 6, 2025.
“The public must trust that bail bondsmen and bondswomen will operate within the scope of the law, so it’s troubling when they do not,” Commissioner Causey said. “Thanks to our agents for bringing this case to light.”
