North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Adrian Brown, 32, of 305 Rountree St. West, Wilson. Brown is charged with insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. All three charges are felonies.

According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Brown filed a false police report that his 2019 Nissan Altima had been stolen and then involved in a crash that totaled the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that Brown crashed his vehicle and then attempted to receive money from National General for its replacement. He also received money for a rental car from National General in the amount of $480.

This joint investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Wilson Police Department, the N.C. DMV License and Theft Bureau, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on March 30, 2024, according to the arrest warrants.

Brown was arrested and held without bond due to several unrelated drug and failure to appear in court cases. He appeared in Wilson County District Court on Nov. 25.

“This multi-agency investigation was conducted with great teamwork, and I’m proud of the collaboration,” Commissioner Causey said. “Thanks to all agents for bringing this case to light.”
