North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today that Kendry Ricardo Pujols, 47, of 5922 Weddington Road, Matthews, was charged with two counts of common law forgery and two counts of obtaining property by false pretense. All four charges are felonies. He was also charged with making a false statement on an insurance application, a misdemeanor.

According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Pujols twice added a second person to his National General insurance policy with a forged driver’s license certificate and twice attempted to sell an insurance policy back to the person he used the forged paperwork for. On a third occasion, he attempted to get money from another victim by claiming to add them to his policy.

The incidents occurred on May 17, June 14 and July 13, 2024 and according to the arrest warrants.

Pujols was issued a criminal summons on Dec. 3. He is set to appear in Union County District Court on Jan. 21, 2025.

“Forgery and insurance related crimes affect us all, and hit consumers directly in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Our agents are working to aggressively pursue and prosecute insurance fraud and insurance-related identity theft in North Carolina.”
