North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Bradley Lamar Armstrong, 39, of 319 West Hwy. 150 Bypass, Lincolnton. Armstrong is charged with embezzlement, conversion, common law forgery and common law uttering. All four charges are felonies.

According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Armstrong, a bail bondsman, used $400 of a bond premium payment for his own use and embezzled $6,074 in bond premium payments from Alleghany Causualty Company, the holders of the bond. He also forged receipts and other paperwork related to the payments.

The incident occurred on Feb. 12, 2022, according to the arrest warrants.

Armstrong was arrested on Dec. 4 and released on a written promise to appear. He appeared in Lincoln County District Court on Dec. 5.

“The public must trust that bail bondsmen and bondswomen will operate within the scope of the law, so it’s troubling when they do not,” Commissioner Causey said. “Thanks to our agents for bringing this case to light.”
