North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today that Patrick Jared Crocker, 38, of 72 Old Mallard Road, Smithfield, has been charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. Both offenses are felonies.
According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Crocker presented false statements during correspondence to Progressive Premier Insurance Company of Illinois in an attempt to obtain $3,416.93 in payments.
The incident occurred on Sept. 4, 2024, according to the arrest warrants.
Crocker was issued a criminal summons on Dec. 3. He appeared in Johnston County District Court on Dec. 4.
“Insurance fraud affects us all, and hits consumers directly in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Our agents are working to aggressively pursue and prosecute insurance fraud and insurance-related identity theft in North Carolina.”
