North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Cindy Ramzi Hanna, 48, of 2507 Dumfries Road, Greensboro. Hanna is charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count each of identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense. All four charges are felonies.
According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Hanna used her deceased mother’s name to obtain a fraudulent homeowners policy from NC Farm Bureau Insurance. She then attempted to file a claim for damages to the property that existed prior to the policy in the amount of $49,000.
The incident occurred on Jan. 24, 2024, according to the arrest warrants.
Hanna was served a criminal summons on Nov. 26. She is set to appear in Guilford County District Court on Dec. 18.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
