Commissioner Causey to honor seven Mount Gilead firefighters as fire department celebrates 100 years of service

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will honor seven Mount Gilead firefighters who have a combined total of 244 years of service to their community on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The presentation will take place during the Mount Gilead Fire Department’s 100 Years of Service Celebration, which is being held during the annual Mount Gilead Fall Festival.

The presentation will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Gilead Fire Department, 106 E. Allenton St., Mount Gilead, N.C. 27306.

Commissioner Causey will present the Order of the Guardian Award, which is the Department of Insurance’s highest honor, to four firefighters: Chief Keith Byrd (40 years of service), Assistant Chief Tommy Gaddy (43 years of service), Mitchell Lucas (45 years of service) and Chip McAulay (42 years of service).

In addition, Commissioner Causey will present the Commissioner’s Award to three firefighters: Lt. Lynn Smith (26 years of service), Randy Browning (26 years of service) and Chris Lucas (22 years of service).

“I congratulate these seven firefighters, and all of the Mount Gilead firefighters, for their dedication to protecting their community,” Commissioner Causey said. “These firefighters sacrifice a lot to make their community a safer place to live.”
