North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Kelly Scott Frisbee, 42, of 674 Drucilla Church Road, Nebo, N.C. Frisbee was charged with insurance fraud, a felony. He was also charged with filing a false report to a police station, a misdemeanor.
According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Frisbee said his GMC Sierra Truck had been stolen via a claim he filed to Erie Insurance, when in fact the vehicle had not been stolen.
According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on Jan. 1, 2023.
Frisbee was arrested on August 15 and released on a written promise to appear in court. He appeared in McDowell County District Court on August 16.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
