Mecklenburg County man charged with four counts of insurance fraud, one count of obtaining property by false pretense

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Brandon Travail Jones, 2092 Ayrsley Town Blvd #B, Charlotte, NC. Jones was charged with four counts of insurance fraud, and one count of obtaining property by false pretense. All are felonies.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Jones attempted to file insurance claims on a vending machine he was not licensed to operate. Jones filed through Liberty Mutual/Ohio Security Insurance Company under his business name despite the machine not being owned or operated properly by him and being abandoned on the property. A previous claim was also filed through a different insurance carrier.

According to the arrest warrant, the offenses occurred on June 26, 2024.

Jones was arrested on July 16 and released on $5,000 bond.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
