Mecklenburg County woman charged with two counts of insurance fraud

RALEIGH
Jul 9, 2024

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Timira Chiquita Glaspy, 33, of 4440 Merlane Drive, Charlotte, was charged with two counts of insurance fraud, both felonies.

According to special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Glaspy provided information to Integon Indemnity Corp. falsely stating her child was in the vehicle during an accident in one claim made earlier this year. She provided a previous claim in 2021, falsely stating she was in her own vehicle during an earlier accident. Both claims turned out to be fraudulent, agents said.

Glaspy was previously charged by agents with the 2021 offense that was later dismissed in court. According to criminal summonses, the offenses occurred on May 22, 2021, and on Jan. 3, 2024.

Glaspy was served with a criminal summons on July 3. She is expected to appear in Mecklenburg County District Court for the new charges on July 17.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
