North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of India Ayesha Wilkerson, 25, of 1606 Pinecroft Road, Greensboro. Wilkerson was charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy, common law forgery and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.
According to special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Wilkerson forged photographs from a 2021 insurance claim of another person, Rodericka Sadia Kennedy, 24, of 834 Rumford Place, Fayetteville. Both Wilkerson and Kennedy previously lived in Kinston.
According to the arrest warrant, Wilkerson conspired with Kennedy to commit fraud by submitting the photos with a claim. Wilkerson attempted to obtain $195,821 in homeowners’ and renters’ insurance from State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. via forged bank statements, the warrant says.
According to the arrest warrants, the offenses occurred on Sept. 7, 2023.
Wilkerson was arrested on July 3, fingerprinted and released on a $15,000 secured bond.
Arrest warrants have also been issued for Kennedy.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
