NC Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will partner with multiple agencies and the AARP to inform the public about scams and frauds older adults encounter as part of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which falls on June 15.
A press conference will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12 at the NC Secretary of State’s Office, 2 S. Salisbury St. Raleigh, N.C. The media is invited to attend and cover this event.
With scams and frauds taking a greater toll on Americans than ever before, North Carolina fraud watchdogs are working to highlight the top scams to look out for in the state.
The press conference will also include updates and remarks by: NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, US Attorney Michael Easley of Eastern District NC, NC Senior Deputy Attorney General Jasmine McGhee, United Way of NC President and CEO Brittany Pruitt Fletcher, and AARP NC Director Michael Olender.
A new educational video for older audiences will be released and a new resource to help people find the right place to report fraud or assist victims will be announced.
The NC Senior Consumer Fraud Task Force, comprised of government agencies, the private sector and consumer advocates was created in 1998 to share information, education, and resources to help protect older adults and others from fraud.
