North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Orin Darnell Johnson, 40, of 9419 Lucy Jane Lane, Charlotte, NC. Johnson was charged with four counts of insurance fraud. All counts are felonies.
According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Johnson provided four erroneous statements to State Farm Fire and Casualty to try to obtain fraudulent payments. Johnson’s statements cited a fictitious company on his statements, ‘Textile Restore’, performing work on his home in an attempt to receive reimbursement payments totaling over $30,000.
According to the arrest warrant, Johnson provided the statements to the insurer on March 24, 2023.
Johnson was released on a $75,000 unsecured bond, finger-printed and ordered to appear in Mecklenburg County Court on June 19.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
