North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will address the media ahead of the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 at the entrance to the Exchange Nature Center in Kinston, NC.
The center is located within the Neuseway Nature Park, 401 West Caswell St., Kinston. Commissioner Causey is expected to be joined by other state, county and city officials for the event.
NOAA National Weather Service forecasters at the Climate Prediction Center predict above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year. NOAA’s outlook for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which spans from June 1 to November 30, predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season and a 5% chance of a below-normal season.
“North Carolina is no stranger to hurricanes and tropical storms so familiarizing yourself with storm preparedness could save precious lives and property when disaster strikes,” said Commissioner Causey. “Severe weather emergencies can happen at any moment and that’s why we hope to get this message out to the public about what they can do to prepare in advance.”
The invitation-only event is open to credentialed members of the media.
Media who wish to cover this event are asked to RSVP to press@ncdoi.gov.
