North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Angela Michelle Dunn, 56, of 401 Dayvault St. SW, Concord, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Dunn of attempting to receive a payment from Peak Property and Casualty Insurance Corp. by falsely telling the insurance company that an automobile accident occurred after medical coverage was added to the policy.
According to the criminal summons, the accident occurred before the medical coverage was added.
The offenses occurred on Feb. 26.
Special agents served the criminal summons on Dunn on May 9. She is due in Cabarrus County District Court on June 3.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
