North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today that Laverne Love Johnson Peebles, 36, of 3335 Revolution Park Drive, Charlotte, NC has been charged with one count of insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Pebbles of submitting a fraudulent claim to Sentry Insurance Company stating that she was driving her Toyota Sequoia SUV with a passenger when the vehicle was involved in an accident. In fact, Pebbles was not in the vehicle during the May 29, 2023 crash.
Peebles has been summoned to appear in a Mecklenburg County courtroom on February 29 to answer for this charge.
Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.
“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”
