North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Anthony Dashawn Hudson, 25, of 1884 Rebecca Kennedy Road, Rocky Point, N.C. Hudson was charged with the burning of personal property, insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. All three charges are felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Hudson of setting his own vehicle on fire in an effort to obtain $15,844.69 from Progressive Premier Insurance Company of Illinois. The offense occurred in Onslow County on June 16, 2023.

Hudson was arrested on Feb. 5 by Pender County Sheriff’s Office, appeared in Onslow County Court and was released on a $15,900 secured bond.

“Property and casualty insurance fraud costs insurance customers an estimated $120 billion a year in increased premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “The Department of Insurance has beefed up its fraud-fighting staff in an effort to make more arrests to keep fraud from driving up insurance costs.”
