New multi-agency media event to address school bus safety practices

RALEIGH
Aug 17, 2023

As students return to classrooms across North Carolina, there will be a higher concentration of commuters-especially children-who travel by bus, motor vehicle, bicycle or walk along the roadways. As a result, state leaders and law enforcement are encouraging motorists to brush up on the school bus safety law to keep students safe, avoid accidents and avert insurance penalties.

To inform the public about bus safety practices that will help avoid injuries, deaths, fines and auto insurance increases, the Department of Transportation’s Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the Department of Public Instruction and the Department of Insurance will host the first-annual School Bus Safety Media Day at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. Also on hand will be the parents of a Davidson County student who was severely injured when he was hit by a car while crossing the road to board a school bus.

The event will be held behind Building E of Wake County Public School System’s bus garage, 1551 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, N.C.
The media is invited to attend and cover this event, which is open to the public.
