North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who also serves as the State Fire Marshal, will present the Guardian Award to Clayton Fire Chief Lee Barbee on Wednesday, June 28.
The presentation will take place at 1:15 p.m. at the Clayton Fire Department, Station 1, 325 West Horne St., Clayton, N.C. 27215.
In May, Chief Barbee announced his retirement after 48 years of service to the department. He is a 1974 graduate of Clayton High School, and his extensive education as a firefighter began immediately after graduation when he joined the Clayton Fire Department in 1975. He was recently named Deputy Town Manager after serving as the interim deputy since 2021.
The Commissioner presents this award to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service in either the fire or insurance industries.
