Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present insurance agent Barbara Darden with the department’s Order of the Guardian Award during a special presentation on Thursday, May 11.
The Commissioner, who also serves as the State Fire Marshal, presents this award to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service in either the fire or insurance industries.
Darden started her insurance career with Nationwide in 1959 at their regional office in Raleigh, manually writing fire policies before advancing to the company’s sales department. After starting as a secretary to the sales manager, she eventually became a sales manager herself, working with agents across the Southeast. She worked in the regional office from 1959 to 1989, after which she became an agent in Swansboro.
