North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Daniel Squire Bohland, 47, of 4280 Highway 158, Advance. Bohland was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Bohland of attempting to obtain a payment from N.C. Farm Bureau Insurance Co. by telling the insurance company and Winston-Salem police that his Kawasaki motorcycle had been stolen.
According to the arrest warrant, Bohland knew that his motorcycle had been towed on the day of his accident, Dec. 4, 2021.
The offense occurred on Jan. 18.
Bohland was arrested in Davie County on Aug. 18 and given a $5,000 unsecured bond. He is due in Forsyth County District Court on Sept. 14.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840.
