North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will kick-off Arson Awareness Week and present Accelerant Detection K-9 ‘Nancy’ during a special news conference this week. The press conference and demonstration to follow will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4 in front of the Albemarle Building, located at 325 North Salisbury Street, Raleigh, N.C.

The media is invited to attend and cover this special event.

Following remarks made by Commissioner Causey, Nancy and NCDOI Special Agent Craig Jarman will demonstrate techniques used in fire investigations and the ability to locate even the smallest of fire-starting accelerants.

“We are so excited to unveil this new tool law enforcement will use in the fight against arson,” Commissioner Causey said. “This will give the public the opportunity to see this highly trained dog in action.”

K9 Nancy is the result of a partnership between State Farm and NCDOI to douse fires, put criminals behind bars, and make our communities safer. K9 Nancy is a two-and-a-half-year-old female Goldador (a Labrador retriever and Golden retriever cross), and was raised by Southeastern Guide Dogs in Palmetto, Florida. Jarman has been in training to be the handler for this new K-9 in Concord, New Hampshire during the month of April. Video of K9 Nancy in action can be found here: https://vimeo.com/704692164.

Visitor parking will be available in Parking Deck 75, which is located north of the Albemarle Building on Salisbury Street in Raleigh.
