Oxford woman charged with insurance fraud

RALEIGH
Jan 11, 2022

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Yolanda Taylor Edmonds, 40, of 8013 N.C. 96 North, Oxford. Edmonds was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Edmonds of telling Dairyland Peak Property and Casualty Insurance that damage to her automobile crash occurred after she reinstated her policy when it occurred before the reinstatement.

According to the arrest warrant, the policy had lapsed for non-payment.

The offense occurred between Dec. 13, 2021, and Dec. 18, 2021.

Special agents along with Granville County deputies arrested Edmonds on Jan. 7.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840. Information is also available at www.ncdoi.gov.
