North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey will award approximately $500,000.00 in fire and rescue grants to 17 volunteer fire departments and rescue squads in need during a visit to Wilkes County Monday, June 14. While there, Commissioner Causey will also recognize former Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bill Johnson and Moravian Falls Fire Department Chief Bob Johnson with posthumous Order of the Guardian awards.
The Order of the Guardian award is presented to citizens who have more than 30 years of outstanding service in either the fire or insurance industry.
Mountain View Fire Chief Bill Johnson served Wilkes County for 42 years. Moravian Falls Fire Chief Bob Johnson served Wilkes County for 62 years.
