North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Harold Richard Baker, 77, of 837 Johnnie Bridges Road, Shelby, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of setting up a mobile home without a set-up contractor’s license.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Baker of obtaining $2,500 to set up a mobile home on Biddy Lane in Rutherfordton after telling the customer he was a licensed mobile home set-up contractor when he had lost his license in 2018.
According to criminal summonses, Baker also received payment for setting up a mobile home on Lois Lane in Kings Mountain without a license.
The offenses occurred between Aug. 12, 2020, and Oct. 16, 2020.
Baker was served with criminal summonses on Feb. 3. He has a hearing in Rutherford County District Court on Feb. 25 and in Cleveland County District Court on Feb. 26.
