North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Lakeisha Tramonda Hoskins, 36, of 2422 Meaderoft Road, Charlotte. Hoskins was charged with insurance fraud.
Hoskins is accused of providing false information to National General Insurance Co. in support of a claim with the company. According to the arrest warrant, when Hoskins provided an oral statement to the insurance company, she listed two additional passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision that were not included in the police report. Fraud investigators say she filed a claim with National General Insurance Co. seeking a monetary settlement for the two passengers who were not present.
According to the warrant, the action occurred on Aug. 21, 2017.
Insurance fraud costs American consumers approximately $80 billion dollars a year. According to Commissioner Causey, fraud costs North Carolinians between 15 and 20 cents of every dollar paid on insurance premiums -- and it’s getting worse.
“I am determined to stem the tide of insurance fraud in this state in order to save residents money,” said Commissioner Causey. “That’s why I am dedicated to the mission of our NCDOI law enforcement officers who investigate and prosecute claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.”
