North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Pavel Gurlov, 37, of 2408 River Oaks Drive, Waxhaw; he is charged with one count of felony obtaining property by false pretense.
The incident occurred in Mecklenburg County between Oct. 29, 2016, and Oct. 30, 2016.
After a joint investigation by N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles License and Theft Bureau and the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigation Division, investigators concluded that Gurlov, an employee of Hendrick Collision Center, stole a Porsche headlamp from his employer and sold it on eBay for $1,200 without authorization.
Gurlov was arrested on Oct. 26, 2017, and released on a written promise to appear in court.
"According to the FBI, insurance fraud costs the average family between $400 and $700 per year in the form of increased premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “Consumer protection is my number one priority and I will continue to fight insurance fraud with your help.”
