Durham Man Accused of Acting without Bail Bondsmen License

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Anthony Clayborne Perry, 45, of 311 South LaSalle St., Durham; he is charged with one count of acting as a bail bondsmen without being licensed.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Perry of conducting bail bond business without being licensed by the North Carolina Department of Insurance during June 2017.

Perry was arrested on Sept. 12 in Durham County with assistance from the Durham County Sheriff’s Deputies and was placed under a $2,000 bond.

"According to the FBI, insurance fraud costs the average family between $400 and $700 per year in the form of increased premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “Consumer protection is my number one priority and I will continue to fight insurance fraud with your help."

The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
